Domaine de la Présidente, Max Aubert

The Estate date from the 17th century, and became national property after the French Revolution in 1789.  It changed hands many times until last century when Max  Aubert, whose family had been winegrowers for many generations, became the landowner.  Max's  son René is now taking the best from time-honoured procedures for wine making and combining them with various new techniques to produce some magnificent wines from the Côtes du Rhône and Châteauneuf du Pape.  Côtes du Rhône Villages Cairanne Grands Classiques is a most appealing wine: "Fresh, ripe fruit, very modern style .... really good plummy fruit, quite high in Syrah, good concentration and ripe jamminess" (DECANTER).
