Argentina
Argentina is one of the great wine red wine producing countries of the world, with a long and venerable viticultural history. It is also one of the largest wine producing countries and currently ranks fifth in the world. High altitude, desert viticulture (dry farming does not exist in Argentina) characterises 98% of the wine regions. These two defining factors give Argentina's wine a real uniqueness. Deserts are hot during the day and cold at night, helping to retain acidity in the grapes and freshness in the wine. With vineyards averaging 900m above sea level the increased sunlight intensity causes thicker skins and therefore deeply coloured and highly aromatic wines. This combination of fresh, deeply coloured, deeply flavoured and aromatic wines has led to an explosion in the exports of Argentine wine to all corners of the globe.
