Portugal » Douro

The Douro River, which lends this region its name, begins its journey to the Atlantic in Spain but only takes on its true majesty as it flows through northern Portugal. The Douro is a truly spectacular viticultural region. The thousands of patchwork, terraced vineyards that hug the steep slopes and the different exposures given by the twists and turns of the river provide a tool box of blending materials that allow winemakers to create wines of extraordinary complexity. This is the home of Port but its reputation as a table wine producer of the highest quality - mainly involving the Touriga Nacional grape - is growing with every vintage that passes.
