France » Rhône

Complex and hugely significant wine region in France that is centred on and about a 200km stretch of the mighty Rhône river. The appellation is dotted with famous names, from Châteauneuf du Pape in far south to Côte Rotie in the far North. It's a great area for wine, diverse and stylish. Whites from Viognier, Marsanne and Rousanne can be sublime but it is the reds that tend to garner the acclaim. Syrah is the crown prince of grape varieties and it tends to be the case that the further north you go the better the expression. Grenache Noir is another key variety and is at its finest when playing a starring role in Châteauneuf du Pape and others.
