Portugal » Bairrada
The patchwork vineyards of Bairrada, dotted amongst a huge variety of other agricultural crops, can be found in the large swathe of fertile land south of Oporto in Northern Portugal. Whilst for the most part Portuguese viticultural areas are dense with indigenous grape varieties, in Bairrada it's a little different with just one red grape variety, Baga, accounting for about 70% of all production. That said there are a few more varieties, including white and international, creeping into the equation these days. All in all this historic area is on the up an up producing excellent value for pleasure wines at all price points.
