France » Rhône » Gigondas

Gigondas is becoming an increasingly sought after Rhone appellation and it's wines bear more than a passing resembelence to those of Chateauneuf du Pape but are much more keenly priced. The 1300 ha of vineyards are set in a spectacularly wild and ungroomed landscape. The dominant grape variety is Grenache Noir supplemented by Syrah and Mourvedre in the main, although others find their place here too. The best wines - and our producer Grapillon d'Or is certainly amongst them - produce wines with weight and depth that, in keeping with the terroir, walk a little on the wild side.
