France » Bordeaux » Pauillac
Pauillac is perhaps the most famous of the Médoc appellations. In this strip of land adjoined top and bottom by St Julien and St Estephe, three of the five first growth properties have their home. There is little real doubt amongst connoisseurs that here, on these deep gravelly soils, as far as cabernet sauvignon is concerned, Paulliac is the mother ship. The wines in top vintages from the best chateaux are eye wateringly good and exhibit such purity of fruit, such thrilling precision and elegance that it's hard to dispute the claim. There is only one problem prices tend to be eye watering too!
