One of a number of right bank "satellite" appellations lying immediately north of Pomerol itself. It is Merlot that rules the roost here and in good vintages the wines can express much of the lush, glossy sophistication of its famous neighbour and generally at far lower prices. That said there has been considerable investment here from some prestigious wineries (eg Chateau Angelus) and some of these "garagiste wines" are fetching substantial prices in the market.
