Tasting notes
A blend of 50% Shiraz and 50% Malbec. Deep pink in colour with aromas of fresh strawberries and cherries. On the palate the wine is full of fresh summer berry fruit flavours, with fresh acidity and a hint of sweetness. The finish is long and elegant.
Production method
Fermentation in double-jacketed stainless steels at 16C. Colour extraction from the Shiraz is through cold maceration for 10 hours at 11C and from the Malbec by straight bleeding. Maturation in stainless steel.
Producer notes
Winemaker Luis Cabral de Almeida asserts that Flichman is all about "Attitude with Altitude", which is why the winery is enjoying such success today. Following significant investment from Portuguese owners, Sogrape, massive vineyard expansion has allowed Flichman to experiment, innovate and excite. Unique to Flichman is the specific location of the Barrancas estate at 700 metres above sea level. Vineyards are planted on the old Mendoza river-bed, where the stony soils are ideally suited for Syrah. Flichman has also planted vineyards in Tupungato, at 1100m, where the distinctive climatic conditions lend additional acidity and complexity to the wines.
