Tasting notes
Aged and bottled at Château Beychevelle from grapes grown in vineyards to the south of St. Julien in the Haut-Médoc. Medium to full-bodied in style with attractive, rich, plummy berried fruit aromas as well as excellent balance, structure and length.
Production method
Traditional temperature-controlled vinification followed by 15 months in oak casks, all of which have previously been used for the Grand Vin Château Beychevelle, and 10% of which are renewed each year.
Producer notes
Fourth Growth, 74ha Estate in Saint Julien which, despite its steadfast unwillingness to go down the Parker route in terms of style, has never-the-less become one of the big names in the Bordeaux hierarchy over the last two decades.
Beychevelle, being situated in the most southern part of the appellation, is often characterised by its finesse and elegance (Margaux in style) in contrast to its more muscular northern neighbours (close to Pauillac). At its best the wine has a supple elegance all of is own.
The second wine, Amiral de Beychevelle, is also deeply impressive.
