Tasting notes

A rich yet elegant combination of flavours - dried apricots, honey, nuts, spices, vanilla - creates an endlessly complex wine that unfolds smoothly and develops in the mouth. Delightful served slightly chilled as an accompaniment to a rich appetiser - such as foie-gras, and perfect with selected desserts such as a crème brulée or a tarte tatin, dried fruits or simply a fresh peach. An elegant aperitif when served chilled.

Production method

Fermentation in stainless steel vats and in presses under controlled temperature, arrested through the addition of grape alcohol. Matured in small oak casks (600 L) of European oak with many years of use, thus slowly developing rich tawny hue.

Producer notes

The iconic Sandeman Don, created in 1928, is one of the first trademark images ever created. The Don has received a facelift in recent years, and the full range of Sandeman Ports has been updated and stylishly re-packaged. Sandeman recently opened its new production and visitor centre in Quinta do Seixo, in the Upper Douro. This houses the latest technology and production processes, including robotic lagares that closely replicate the traditional method of treading Port grapes by foot. The range includes Apitiv White Port, and the stylish Vau Vintage Port - released ready for immediate consumption.
