Tasting notes
Deep, dark ruby-red in colour, the nose is a blend of black cherry and blackbberry with a touch of coffee, and some vanilla nuances from oak ageing. The palate is rich, with good substance and fine balance. Tannins are finely grained. Drink with roasted meats and game dishes, as well as hard cheeses.
Production method
One third carbonic maceration and two thirds temperature-controlled fermentaion in vat for a period of 5 weeks with twice-weekly pigeage. Short maturation in oak barrels prior to blending and bottling.
Producer notes
The estate was purchased by Stéphane Vedeau in 2008, and combines 44ha of mature vines, planted with typical Southern Rhône varieties. It is spectacularly set on a 410m high plateau opposite Mont Ventoux to the south east of the town of Valréas, an hour or so north of Avignon. The winery, cut into the hillside, is state-of-the-art and gravity fed, providing the perfect environment for fine wine production, but it's the combination of Northern Rhône altitude and Southern Rhône grape varieties that makes this place unique.
